This is an adorable pirate story that children will love to read along with. The illustrations are bright and cheery adding much to the story. It would be great if the pictures and writing was on the same page.For an e-book some work needs to be done for it to be more enjoyable. The writing is tiny on the page (even after trying to make it bigger). Because of this, I am giving it a lower rating.I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.
I don't currently have any children to get their take, but I found the book to be quite cute and charming. The pictures were adorable - though I had to wonder WHAT was going on with the Captain's hair or those spikes coming out from his head! - and I really liked that there would be a page of text followed by a page of appropriate illustrations.I also really liked all of the characters - even the "bad guy"! - and I think children will love the talking animals involved in the story.Additionally, the problem's resolution was interesting but simple enough to appeal to younger children. It's also nice that even though this story was tied-up in this volume, there's an overall story that will take several editions to completely resolve. I received this exclusive ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I was very impressed with this book. It is very engaging as well as a very creative story. Helga Hopkins has brought such a fun group together for this adventure. As the story unfolds Captain Blownapartes crew sets out to help the Golden Skull find bones to become whole again. What I liked about this is the way each character had a skill and had to all work together to complete the adventure. For me I felt that the message was that no matter how different we all are we all can make a difference when we work together. The illustrations were a perfect complement to the story and helped really bring it to life. In the end I highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed this children’s book with my grandchildren. The author, Helga Hopkins, is very creative in bringing the story together with colorful characters who all have something to add to the adventure. My grandchildren loved how they all worked together to help the Golden Skull and compared it to how they help their mama ïŠ. The illustrations are great and let kids run with their imagination of being in the far away land with Captain Blownapartes. Cannot wait to get the other books with Captain and friends so I can spend some more precious time with my grandchildren. I do recommend this book. As an educator, I am always on the lookout for new reading materials that will engage young readers.This story was exciting and offered lively and child-friendly dialogue. The colorful pictures were next to the dialogue to provide entertainment and validation to fluent readers and support to readers who might be struggling with some of the text.I was unaware of this author and that Captain Blownaparte was a series of books. I will seek out the remainder of these to add to our school library. Ms. Hopkins, thank you for sharing these wonderful stories with us!I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this title.
I was given and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. My nine year old was able to read this independently to our 3 year old. Here is our review, as written by our (nine year old) daughter:"It was a very interesting book. I thought it was pretty funny when the skeleton bit Captain Blownaparte. My favorite part was when Toggie and Captain Blownaparte used a table, tablecloth, and cannonball to fly back to their ship. This book makes me feel like when I grow up I can go on a mission and help a golden skeleton too! I liked Captain Blownaparte and the Golden Skeleton."
Meh!! The target age for this book is 3 - 7. I read it to my 5-year-old and the response was only OK. The mark of a great story in my house is to be asked for a repeat read and that did not happen here. The best thing about the book is the colourful pictures that illustrate almost every part of the story.The story made sense but it wasn't exciting and the words used were often outside the general scope of that of the target age. So this story is just average. Can do without part 2 if its more of the same.
I am grateful for being chosen to review this book. This children's mystery is very well written and made my daughter and I want to continue reading where to find the next piece of the golden skeleton. We chose to read this book as an opening to our study of pirates. As our study continued we reflected back on the story and the antics of the pirates. And found a few correlations to what we were studying with historic pirates.
