This book is a nice little extra book that tells 4 nice love stories. I of course personally loved Luce and Daniels story the most it was just so nice!SpoilersShelby and MilesTakes place (when they had gone in the past looking for Luce) right after Daniel had told them to go home but Shelby and Miles end up in the middle ages by mistake and seek to find an announcer to take them back home they end up seeing a past Luce, heartbroken that she has not seen Daniel and Shelby and Miles promise her that they will bring him to her during the Valentines festival, they then see Roland (from there present) who tells them that he will get Daniel there and he will give them an announcer to go home. As the night moves on Shelby and Miles become closer and share a kiss.Roland and RosalineRoland seeks Daniel to bring him to the Valentines fair but ends up passing past Rosaline's (a girl that Roland was deeply in love with) castle and remembers the love that they had but how he went to go ask Cam in which he should tell her that he's an angel but Cam tells him to break it off now, Roland listened but Roland now regrets it. Roland wishes to apologize to Rosaline but doesn't when he see that she has a child and husband and another baby on the way. Rosaline's husband has to go off to a war but when he try's to take off Roland lies to him and tells him that he will take his place in battle that he should stay there with his wife and kids. Roland then seeks Daniel again until he comes across Arriane who tells Roland that Daniel is already on his way there.Arriane and TessArriane is and angel and Tess is a demon who are in love but must keep it a secret. However Tess tells Arriane that she had told Lucifer about their love and that they could be together if Arriane joined her. Arriane becomes upset and tells Tess that he was lying that the only reason he said that was so that she could tip the scale. Arriane and Tess get to an argument, Arriane breaks up with Tess and leaves. Arriane then feels that something had happened to Tess and goes searching for. When Arriane finds her, Tess had hurt herself, Arriane try's to help her but Tess blood burns Arriane's skin and Arriane's blood burns Tess (that will leave marks, this is what caused the scars that Arriane has) Arriane tells Tess that she will send someone to help her but also fully accepts that they really can't be together.Luce and DanielThis is an untold story that belonged in Passion. Luce cleaves with her past self, she finds out that she is poor and that Daniel is a knight, Bill tells Luce that this is the only Valentines Day that they ever spend together and tells her that he is going to leave for a little and tells Luce to enjoy to just a least have sometime off, Luce agrees. When she arrives home her family is getting really for the Valentines festival in which they will be having a masquerade ball. Luce worries that she won't see Daniel but Bill had said that he would be there. Luce goes to the festival and joins in the dancing but worries where Daniel is as it gets later and later, finally Daniel shows up where he takes her away from the Valentines masquerade and into a forest where Daniel had done something very special for Luce and they spend the rest of Valentines Days together.

The novel consists of four short stories; all love stories featuring a few of our favorite characters from the series.Love Where You Least Expect It: The Valentine of Shelby and Miles is the first short story in the novel. Shelby and Miles story was sweet and simple. I never really thought of them together when reading the previous books, but after reading this, I can definitely see them together. I really enjoyed getting to know both Shelby and Miles more in this short story, and I'm really hoping that we will get to see more of them in the next novel. They are such great characters.Love Lessons: The Valentine of Roland is the second story in the novel. Roland's story was just heartbreaking. This is totally not the story I was expecting for Roland; he's always been a character that I enjoyed, and I was hoping for a happy story for him as well. But we all know that love does not always equal happiness.Burning Love: The Valentine of Arriane is the third story in the novel. Arriane is another character that I have always really liked. In her story, we get to see a completely different type of relationship than what I expected. Very emotional and intense, this story is definitely one of forbidden love.Endless Love: The Valentine of Daniel and Lucinda is the fourth and final story in the novel. I found this to be really sweet as well, although I do wish that Daniel and Lucinda had been together a little more through the story. However, the anticipation building up to where they finally meet was well worth it. Daniel and Lucinda's relationships are always sweet to read about.With the four short stories, and the quick pacing, this makes for a very fast read. I love getting the history for the characters that we still didn't have a history for. It was really interesting getting to see the past for Arriane and Roland.Overall, I thought this book was a good addition to the Fallen series. The stories were interesting, and I love the gorgeous cover for the book as well. It looks lovely displayed on my bookshelf!

ive read a lot of reviews about the series not giving many of the integral characters backstory, and sure enough in time for valentines day she threw together a filler. which i dont mind at all :) i try not to be too critical of the books as i just love to get lost in the stories rather than critique them, and ive been dying to see the last book. well i bought this back when it first came out, and i just now read it. read it in two days. very quick, easy read, could have finished it that night but i was reading in bed and got tired. but it held me over until the next one comes out in june. very cute stories. gives you some insight into the characters pasts, and even a new adventure. if youve been reading the series youll enjoy this pit stop.

I bought this book to help refresh my memory of basic math skills. I'm on page six and so far I have noticed careless mistakes. Twice now, the answer key has been wrong. One was because the question on the page is missing the negative sign. There has been words missing from definitions (luckily, I notice it). I don't want to judge it too hard because mistakes happen, but for someone who didn't know any of this, they might get confused. I'll share an example of the one I mentioned in this post.

It's a pretty decent book. We used this as one of several refreshers for college algebra for my wife, and it fits the bill pretty well. The only complaint I had was about 40% of the sections had at least one wrong answer in the back of the book. It was easy enough to determine that they were missing negatives in the questions, or used a different number in an equation, but aside from that, it was complete enough that my wife is confident once again in her algebra to tackle the math portion of going back to college.

I have been out of high school for 8 years and I'm finally going to college to get a degree. I wasn't terrible at math in high school, but after a couple years, I've forgotten even basic algebra and geometry. I got this book to work on refreshing my math skills to place out of beginning math classes for my placement tests. It's so easy to understand. It's well written and explained. The videos that accompany each section really help for people who are looking for a hands-on interaction. I ordered a few different math workbooks on here, and this is without a doubt the best. I highly recommend to any adult looking to refresh their algebra or current students who are looking to gain a better understand of what their teacher is providing.

We homeschool, and two of our boys finished their text on fractions this last summer prior to a month-long vacation out of the country. Upon return, the boys were notably rusty, and we needed to do some reviewing before moving on. I selected this book, and was pleased that they could quickly work through all that they had learned prior to our trip and regain their confidence. I can't speak regarding the use of this book as a teaching tool, but as a review tool it fit the bill perfectly.

I noticed that my fifth grader exhibited some real weaknesses with his understanding of and ability to work with fractions. Given the difficulty he encountered it was not surprising that he detested fractions. I found this product on Amazon and figured we would give it a try. He would complete one page per school day. Approximately three weeks after he started working in this workbook he saw a fellow dancer working on a fractions page while he waited for his class. He excitedly say, "Fractions! I love fractions!" I had hoped that his attitude for fractions would change, but I wasn't expecting it to change so rapidly.As an educator, I am very pleased with the rate of progression from one skill to the next, as well as with the review of basic skills. I am also pleased with the "Helpful Hints" section on each page. It provides the information the student and parent/teacher needs to know for the student to progress to this next lesson. At the bottom of each page are problem solving questions which are not overly easy, but are not too challenging. I am very pleased with these as well.My son likes the book and says that "It is easy to understand." Overall, we are both very pleased with this workbook. So, we abandoned Kahn Academy, after much reluctance on my behalf, and purchased two additional workbooks: "Mastering Essential Math Skills: Problem Solving" and "Mastering Essential Math Skills: Geometry." We just received these, and as I speak, my son is completing tomorrow's page in his Geometry book. I plan to get a couple of the others once we get through these ones.FYI.... he started working on his fractions book on 8/14 and he is slated to finish prior to Thanksgiving.

Follows the format of its cousin the Mastering Essentials for Middle/High School but goes into more advanced topics with the same helpful hints, examples, and a nice, clear layout. Makes math easy to take!

My daughter struggles with math so we are started with basics and then added fractions to her learning. This book has been helping every bit plus when you get the code to watch videos online, they take you step by step on how to master fractions. I would recommend this book easy to use and easy to follow.

I have not actually used this yet in my one-day-a-week homeschooling class, but the format and the ready access to well-done video lessons is exactly what my students need. The ability for the students to do a "flipped classroom" format with the algorithm-based workbook and videos will allow the valuable classroom time to focus on group problem-solving and forays into interesting applications. I am very excited to have found this series!

I wasn't quite sure how I was going to feel about the two authors thing in this one. As I've looked into it a bit, I've found that both have good reputations. That doesn't mean it was going to work with them trying this together. Well, it did work.I think what helped is the every other chapter different viewpoint thing they did. Then, reading the author's notes at the end of the book, it looks like each author wrote primary one voice.Sometimes it seems like I was 18 eons ago, other times it seems like only yesterday. I also had a lot of responsibilities at that age as my father was disabled and I'm the 2nd of 4 kids. So I would like to think I'm a pretty good judge of what is authentic sounding in the "teenager who is expected to be an adult but still obey like a child" area. The two ladies hit it out of the ballpark there.There was also something about Bishop's inner dialogue, the push and pull of addiction, that rang true for me. I am not an addict so I don't have the first hand experience in this matter, but it seemed like it could be the way of it for some.Of course, being a YA type of romance, there is some predictability to the story. But that doesn't take away from it being a sweet and sometimes heart-wrenching tale. It definitely piqued my interest in both authors and I will be checking out more of their stuff.

I received an ARC copy by the publisher for an honest review.5 starsI have to admit, I did not know how this story would work with two different authors writing a book. The story was told from two different points of view. Nyrae wrote Bishop's point of view and Jolene wrote Penny's. Each author nailed it perfectly. The story flowed beautifully and the character development was rock solid.The story is about Bishop who is young and a rock star. He has some problems with drugs and alcohol and after some bad choices he ends up in Alaska. Penny is a kick ass girl hockey player who doesn't take crap from anybody. She's tough as nails and is in her comfort zone when she's hanging with guys or on the ice.Without giving too much away, the story of Penny and Bishop is a tale of friendship, trust, letting go, finding your inner strength and love. Their story takes the reader on a beautiful journey. The supporting characters enhance the story and create a perfect balance for Bishop and Penny. The issues discussed in the book are real and relatable. This is published for the young adult/ teen line and is appropriate for young readers. There are some make out scenes and discussion of sex. If you are looking for a growing up and coming of age love story, that is real, this is the book for you. Out Of Play is Outstanding!

This is a fantastic book. I'm disappointed I already read the first of a series of books but am unsure how many more have been released. I'll be looking for the next one.This is shocking to admit that it's one of the first squeaky clean books I've read in a long time. It's actually difficult to find a novel minus either filthy language or sex. It was refreshing.The plot involved a female hockey player who lives in Alaska. Her mother has rental housing. A male stayed in one of the units to get clean from drugs. His guardian had no idea that Bishop was still using yet trying desperately to get clean. I won't give the plot away, but this becomes an unexpected romance.Actually, there was some profanity, but it was much less than any book I've read in a long time. I think you'll enjoy the different subject matter. It did take me awhile to get into the story.O. Miller

Classic Young Adult romance book (in a good way). Two great characters, struggling with their own issues, finding something in each other. I laughed, I definitely cried, and I had moments of fabulous swoonage. And I wasn't sure how the ending was going to play out, but I was extremely satisfied with how it wrapped up. It did take me a bit to get sucked in, and I'm not entirely sure why...but the book hit its stride in the middle.There were even some fabulous secondary characters in the book -- I really loved Gary's role with Bishop. But the surprise highlight of the book, for me, was Gramps. He was exactly what both Penny and Bishop needed.

I started out like any other YA romance, the troubled boy and the feisty girl who woukd save him. But I must say, the story took a turn I didn't expect. The romance was sweet and tentative. But what really got to me was both Penny's and Bishops relationship with Gramps. And Bishop and Gary. From being A story about first love and young love it became about different kinds of love, trust, acknowledging your own weeknesses, standing up for yourself. Yes, I truly enjoyed this read.

My favorite part about the whole book is Penny! This is probably the only book I can remember where the girl appears to be stronger than the guy. I LOVED IT!! She wasn't sitting around complaining about her life and she didn't take any crap. Don't get me wrong. I was digging Bishop too. I mean come on, He's a hott drummer but it was just refreshing to read a book about a strong heroine. The story line was also something a little out of the "norm" so it kept things interesting to read. Great job to Jolene Perry and Nyrae Dawn! You've done it again!

I could not stop reading this story. The characters were amazing. Bishop is the hot bad boy who is actually a good guy. We all love that. Penny is the strong gorgeous girl we all want to be. The supporting characters help make it an entertaining and heart felt story. It is even a little believeable that a hot rock star would fall for small town girl in Alaska. You'll enjoy it. Just read it.

I loved the evolution of Bishop and Penny. The typical angst of teenage romance exacerbated by fame and the anxieties that come with said fame. I've never read anything from Jolene Perry, but after this read I definitely will in the future.

Book was a gift for 8 year old boy. He loves the Lost series. This has been one of his favorites!

I really enjoyed this narrative nonfiction - those men went through the ringer. I'm sure that I wouldn't have survived a tenth of the horrors they went through. While this book isn't graphic, it does touch on some gruesome parts. I felt terrible for the animals in this book - their treatment made me tear up. I felt heartsick for the men for all the horrors they went through, it seemed like one horror after another. Which kept me turning the pages because I needed to see how everything turned out. I liked the additions of the photographs and the maps, they added to the story. Perfect for readers who like survival and/or adventure stories.

I'm so happy to review this book because it absolutely changed my life and my daughter's life forever! I will be honest with you and tell you that I was at my wit's end. My 13 year old, who used to be a sweet kid became constantly defiant and depressed at home. The kid who obviously loved me, I'm a really cool mom, now ignored me and rolled her eyes. Her grades were suffering and she began stitching into her skin during school. This is when someone sews shapes into their skin with a needle and thread. So I got this book.I read the book very quickly because it resonated so strongly with all I was going through. Our society values peer influence so highly and at such a superficial level that we are losing our kids to isolation and hopelessness disguised by technology and unhealthy friendships.I pulled my daughter out of school in her last semester of 7th grade. This meant that she would have to repeat 7th grade and be a year behind. As a single mother with her and a baby, as well as a full-time career I committed to homeschool her. We worked out a strange schedule of night and weekend study focused on real life skills and developing her values system. She was indignant...at first. After the first two weeks things started to ease. She began applying herself more, she softened, started taking great love and responsibility with her sister and with our home. I followed the advice of the book and rebuilt our relationship and the tenderness we have for each other. She was honest with me! She broke down and told me about all her fears and walls.The girl that just wanted to be on the internet or texting in bed was now going to the gym several times a week, going for walks with the kids around the neighborhood, volunteering to help younger students learn to read and really working on improving our family relationships. She stopped yelling at me and ignoring me!! She reached a healthy weight, she was way too skinny.During that one school year we did two years of work and caught her up. She entered high school today, right on schedule! She held my hand as we drove to the bus stop. She was excited about meeting new kids and really applying herself at school. This week she received an award for her volunteer service over the past year. Also, on a daily basis, I have people tell me what a remarkable and intelligent child I have. Last year, she was depressed and aloof, people were concerned about her.Reading this book led me to make a very difficult decision that I thought was absolutely beyond my capacity as a mother. I believe if I hadn't put her first and done everything I could to get her away from her unhealthy friendships that I would've lost her forever and her academic possibilities and life possibilities would have suffered severely. No one agreed that I was doing the right thing! (The school, her father, my mother, no one understood why I needed to this.) This book gives practical step-by-step instructions to get your kids back from unhealthy destructive behaviors that are becoming more and more prevalent as a result of our current culture. If you are losing your child people act fast and be brave. It was the best decision I ever made.

For the first few chapters of this book, it's a page turner with many valuable insights. This may be one of the most critically important books a parent can read (and I've read many). In my degree, we had to study the human mind, behavior, and the subconscious, so I have basic knowledge. This book offers something important most other books overlook. My copy is dog-eared on almost every page - each page contains a gem.Intuitively, we understand the concepts Neufeld outlines - about children, peers, and the harm that comes from inappropriate attachments to peers and from weak parental attachments. But society thrusts upon us the notion that peer relationships are so necessary and healthy, kids must be "socialized" from infancy on, and children naturally stop being close to their parents in grade school and it's normal for them to rebel completely and want nothing to do with their parents by - or before - adolescence.I grew up in the big city public schools and saw firsthand the negative behaviors and saw how girls were taken advantage of. I saw how kids sell their true inner selves out just to fit in with a bunch of (equally clueless) kids. I saw how everyone desperately tried to "fit in" with a false image sold to them by the media. I watched as they lost their self esteem. Many kids became absolute nightmares to their parents. Others were outwardly respectful, but led double lives and were up to no good.I noticed some negative reviews said Neufeld is too cynical and kids really need strong friendships. I think those people are misguided - or maybe they haven't witnessed what really goes on with kids these days. Maybe they believe it's normal or don't realize that - throughout the history of mankind, this was not the case, and this behavior and societal structure is completely unprecedented. Which is not to say kids don't need friends. But Neufeld's book suggests they need to "follow the leader" and it needs to be a trustworthy, solid adult leader. Not other kids. Kids shouldn't "lead" other kids. Who better to learn manhood and womanhood from, but from grown adults? Traditionally, men and women taught their sons and daughters to become men and women by being with them, children would work with or help out their parents. Relatives and neighbors helped, peers were more peripheral as they would be likewise busy with their own families. Which is not to say human life throughout history was nirvana! But school simply didn't exist as it does today. Young humans didn't spend all their time with same-age companions, largely unsupervised.So, I think Neufeld's book is very insightful. And yes, as some negative reviews noted, he sounds a bit melodramatic. But as a therapist in the trenches for decades, hearing families discuss the battlefields in their homes, can you blame him? When kids are peer-attached, it is often extremely dramatic - and traumatic.The reasons I didn't give 5 stars:The author thinks it's not that parents are any less loving, competent or devoted than always, it's just kids are peer-attached due to modern social structure. I partially disagree. While the modern social and economic structure doesn't help matters, I believe many parents are distracted by electronic devices, careers, personal interests, or other things. In that void, kids find attachments to fill the void, and many parents are (at least until the behavior problems start) relieved when their children busy themselves with gaming, peer attachment, or whatever else keeps kids busy and out of their hair. Parents could examine their own behaviors and ensure they don't drive children to peers for their own convenience.A second reason is, the book would benefit from better editing. The first few chapters are fascinating but it becomes repetitive and - as another reviewer noted - sometimes wordy which made it a bit tedious, but didn't lessen the value of the work. I've seen the author speak on youtube, he's brilliant but rambles a bit.The third reason is, at the end, things are worded oddly. It sounds rather manipulative the way he advises us to get our children back if they're peer-attached. I actually get what he's saying, but some passages come off wrong, they make it sound like he's advising sneaky emotional manipulation. He probably doesn't mean it that way... Or maybe he does feel "all's fair in love and war" if children are strongly peer-attached and out of hand. It hands back the responsibility and onus to parents in creating and keeping close, secure attachments with our children and making sure we are there for them as they move through developmental stages.And as my husband and I have been shifting our perspective in alignment with the ideas discussed in this book and implemented some of the advice, we have noticed a marked difference in our home. Behavior seems to be improving, but more prominently, we are ENJOYING our time with our kids more. I cannot recommend this book enough!
