Compared to the Time Out series, the organization of this book makes it much harder to use. Time Out is more focused on the type of thing you're looking for. This book organizes by neighborhood. It seems to go on the premise that should you want a certain kind of food, you won't go from say, Admiralty to Central, for it. Lots of page turning, back and forth.Design wise there's a lot of visual clutter. It also fall short of providing detail in the maps area. The poor design it harder to read...and downright annoying at times.Where it is good is on restaurants, perhaps; and general necessary information on the basics of Hong Kong. also, can be good on the outer areas.The maps in the back don't compare to Time Out series. It does come with a small map you can tear out, but even that is hard to use.My feeling is that for some travelers this may have enough information or hit on the areas they may be most interested in, but as a total package...if you're only buying one guidebook, go with Time Out.

Ten to twelve years ago, Lonely Planet was my go-to guide as they were always spot on. Sadly this one did not live up to my expectations. First let me say I used this one for the Macau portion only, and did not venture into Hong Kong for this latest trip, so I cannot comment on the Hong Kong portion of the book. I've been to Macau before, but a lot has changed in Macau in the last ten years, so I bought this book in the hopes that it would contain some info about the newly formed Cotai Strip portion of Macau.The maps were inadequate. Some of the dining recommendations were terrible, especially the ones for Portuguese food. I found this odd given we found several other Portuguese restaurants (not in Lonely Planet) that were just amazing! The nightlife recommendations were really not as described. And one of the bars recommended by Lonely Planet was a definite tourist trap; they even tried to pull a scam with the bill for an extra HK$300.Info about the new areas of Macau was sadly lacking. Maps were inadequate. Thankfully Macau has a pretty good tourist bureau, and we were able to find some good walking tour maps as well as maps of Taipa and Coloane at one of their local offices.

This well organized, smartly designed travel book makes doing Hong Kong easy. I was staying on Lantau (outlying island, connected by speed rail that takes 11 min to Kowloon and 20 minutes to Hong Kong) for business for six days, and this book helped me target which parts of Kowloon and Hong Kong I wanted to hit when I went on in.Not much I need to say about this, other than it was great. So many detailed maps makes getting around simple. Here are some things you should check out/pass on.HIGHLIGHTS:-Tian Tan Buddha (pg 193). Big ol' Buddha statue (50 feet tall) built on top of a lush jungle peak on Lantau, accessible by bus or cable car. Cable car was fantastic, offering views of HK, hilly jungle landscape, and the Buddha as you approach it. And if you thought that transforming religious or cultural icons into moneymaking ventures was only an American tradition, then you were wrong! There's a gift shop in the base of the Buddha.-Star Ferry. Crossing from Kowloon to downtown Hong Kong, it is a great experience to take in the cityscape in either direction. Not to mention it's $2 Hong Kong dollars, which is like 37 cents or something silly cheap.-Kowloon Jade Market. Just a great experience as well. Have fun searching for nice jewelry and negotiating with the locals - they will punch a number into a calculator, hand it to you, you punch in the number you want to pay, and then they shake their head crazily like you just offered to shoot their dog.-Man Mo temple.-Yuen Po Street Bird Garden. Shout out to the dudes at the basketball court across the street that let me join their game and then didn't respect my jump shot ('MURICA!)-The Peak. So awesome. I wish more cities were built into the side of huge mountains.-Hong Kong Zoological & Botanical Garden. So many fun monkeys to watch. Reptile house about the size of an airplane lavatory.-Hong Kong Art Museum. Although the art leaves something to be desired, the casually dismissive and ridiculously critical plaques accompanying the artwork is high comedy.-Hong Kong taxis. You can get across the city for about 45 Hong Kong dollars. That's like 6 bucks. Saves a ton of time.-Dining: Typhoon Shelter Hing Kee Restaurant (pg 150) in Kowloon was fantastic. It might be under a different name, but had a great food - especially the flash fried crab with the fried garlic. The book is accurate that you should ask how much everything costs. One Dim Sum in Mong Kok was the best dim sum in the city for cheap prices. Bathroom is outside in an alley way, thoLOWLIGHTS:-The goldfish market (pg 148) takes about 30 seconds to walk through and smells like you would think a goldfish market would smell.-Hong Kong Museum of History was closed for a special event when I tried to go there, which is unfortunate as I was really hoping to see if the government redwashed anything.-Dining: City Hall's Maxim Palace. You'd think with 2500 staff working they would have been able to take our order within 30 mins, right?-Hong Kong water. DON'T DRINK IT.-There's a Starbucks on nearly every corner, in case you want Seattle coffee in Hong Kong.In conclusion: loved the book, really enabled my traveling partner and myself to see the city, let me know if you have any questions!

Generally, I'm a huge fan of Lonely Planet for Asia and Rick Steves for Europe. Luckily for me, Rick Steves hasn't let me down yet. Much to my chagrin, Lonely Planet has in more than one occasion now. To begin, I don't expect it to be 100% accurate. That is asking too much of any business or company. Places are often changing, and there is no way for them to know everything.I do expect them to try to be thorough though. The fact that this is [at the time] the most recent book for Hong Kong. I expect them to have places that have closed down a while ago, taken out of the book. Moreover, when they update the book, they need to make sure they update the table of contents/index. Not being able to find something in the book, that the makers of the book marked on a certain page is a fail at all levels. I've also a Thailand book that has the same issues.If I didn't like having books with me while I travel, I would have probably dropped the guides a while ago. Just doing research online to get around is easy enough, and you can use that [info] rather than supplementing the book with said info.

About the Author

In 1968, Josef Koudelka photographed the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia, publishing these images under the initials P. P. (Prague Photographer). Koudelka left Czechoslovakia in 1970, became stateless, was then granted political asylum in England, and shortly thereafter joined Magnum Photos. Koudelka has published eleven books of photographs focusing on the relationship between contemporary man and the landscape, including Gypsies (1975), Exiles (1988), Black Triangle (1994), Invasion 68: Prague (2008), and Wall (2013). Significant exhibitions of his work have been held at the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center of Photography, New York; Hayward Gallery, London; and Palais de Tokyo, Paris. Koudelka is the recipient of the Medal of Merit awarded by the Czech Republic (2002) and numerous other awards. In 2012, he was named Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. He is based in Paris and Prague.

Magnificent photography book. I've read a comment from Koudelka saying he is not courageous enough to be a war photographer. Well he seems to have already proven otherwise. I love his un-peopled photographs as well, but many of these are among the greatest photos of real life really happening. Also highly recommended is Exiles-photos from the 70's (and 80's?) throughout Europe. But I have to add one BIG complaint. Printing photos across two pages is such a dis-service - to the photos, to the photographer, and to the viewer. Why should any part of a photo worth showing be buried in the middle, or the "gutter", as my sister calls it. In one photo in particular- a rather confrontational moment between a soldier and the crowd (and photographer), the soldier's face is hardly visible, buried in that gutter. Why do so many publishers, including even Aperture, do this, and often so badly? Maybe it's already time for a new and improved edition.

i first learned of koudelka from a book on czech photographers that my wife bought me. i was fascinated with the couple photos it had of koudelka's from this particular series. when i found this collection was available in book form, i wanted to see more of his work. this book does not disappoint. there are hundreds of photos, which document a particularly harrowing event. considering the unrest and the possibility of prison or worse, it's not a surprise that koudelka released these under an alias "P.P." (prague photographer). koudelka describes what led up to and what he photographed during that time, but the pictures alone tell the story so vividly. a worthy collection to have.

To those who have a connection to the Czech Republic or Czechoslovakia, this is a must see. 1968 means a lot to Czechs, even though very few today's Russians know what their country did to their western neighbor. The invasion has been an emotional experience to everyone. Having look at those pictures in the book is also emotional. Great shots, high quality print, excellent collection overall. I was born way after 1968, but this book explains why are my parents so emotional about 1968 and why are they so emotional about Russia too...

I've been to Prague many times over the years and recall when the "Prague Spring" took place. This book is a remarkable record of that turbulent time, the book is great!

Great book for this Czech expat who hasn't lived through these times, beautiful and eye opening images.

I bought this as a gift for my mother in law because she is very interested in this time and place. She raves about it! The photos are amazing and the stories are moving.

Picking up where Hendrik left off with his first diary, he does not disappoint. Clever, touching, tender, witty, funny, it's written with truth and warmth. Hendrik really comes into his own, proving that one can still change and grow, and old dogs can learn new tricks! It's a book you can't wait to read through, but never want to end. I'm hoping there will be another installment to Hendrik's story-the world could do with more of Hendrik's insights. The characters are written so well you feel as if you know them, and their emotions are vividly portrayed.I understand the first book has been made into a television series in the Netherlands and hope at some point it will be available to be seen with subtitles here in the US. Until then- please, more Hendrik!!

Delightful story of a man keeping a journal in his nursing home, and the things that they do to entertain themselves.Totally enjoyed it.

Oh how I love Hendrik Groen! He is funny and witty and very realistic! I've read both his "diaries" and chuckled right out loud on many occasions!

I really enjoyed Hendrik's first diary when I read it just over a year ago and wondered when we would be hearing from him again. After a short break, he's back and this time he has more to say than just the ongoing shenanigans of the Old but not Dead club.We start with a bit of a catch up. There been a few changes - not really too surprising given the age of some of the cast - some more notable than others but the old by not dead club continues to wreak havoc and make mayhem with their outings. This time not only are they still doing their day trips but they have also decided that they should be trying cuisine from all four corners so they are also taking it in turns to choose a restaurant. They also plan a really rather ambitious outing. Away from the club, the friends and their peers in the home, along with the staff, provide more of their fair share of entertainment. Some rip-roaringly funny, others poignant and some a little more on the sad side. Also included are Hendrick's observations of not only life in the home but also life for his age-group outside. How things are changing for the elderly. We also have his reports and opinions on things that are going on in the world. Quite a lot of these are, understandably, centred around his own country and contained incidents and people who I have never heard of so that did distract me a little. I also can't remember the first book being quite as political as this one but I may be mis-remembering; I may just be personally more sensitive to that kind of thing at the moment. I did however find this follow up to be a little harder to read and definitely much darker than the first. I actually read it in shorter bursts than the first, needing a bit of respite along the way both to digest what I was reading and also to take a break away from it by reading other books in between. I can't remember needing to do that before. But then again, having had a rethink, the world is indeed a darker place on the whole than it was when his first book was set so maybe it's more accurate than I care to think about. Denial and all that jazz.Politics aside, I really did enjoy the remainder of this book. I just love Hendrick and his attitude. How he toys with the dark side of growing old but, at the same time, embraces the time he has left; determined to get the best from it. There's a lot of introspection in this book which even at my younger (in comparison) age I found quite interesting and definitely food for thought.My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

A different take on the typical construction vehicle kids book. My son loves construction vehicles and gardening. This book gently poses the question about when we should care for nature rather than blindly push forward with progress. I love it, and so does he. It let us have some great conversations about how sometimes tending the flowers is the most important thing we can do.

Got this book for my toddler for Christmas and he cried and loves this book. It’s super sweet and a beautiful message.

This is a cute but, it does get a little abrupt but that is ok to me

Story was disappointing

This was a precious book for my 3 year old Grandson! He loves all kinds of big equipment trucks! The story about relocating the flower and the digger checking on it was special!

Purchased for my grandson and granddaughter.

In my mind this book has a negative message for young children. I initially picked it up in the store because the illustration looked cute and of course my 3 year old loves construction vehicles. The illustrations are wonderful, but I was very disappointed by the "plot twist" of the flower being cut down by the other machines, especially since the excavator worked so hard to protect it. I feel the author misses a great opportunity to teach an important message about conservation, standing up for what you believe in, or even urban greening. Instead, it tells kids that others will destroy what you work so hard to protect, and perhaps this is really true a lot of the time, but shouldn't we teach the younger generation to have hope and to keep trying? The message here is that to enjoy nature, you have to run far away from everyone and everything else. Also, that cities are bad, ugly places. What about turning the area around the flower into an urban park, or a green roof for everyone to enjoy? I don't think I will be reading this to my child, unfortunately.

I was really excited for this book because I like the illustrator but the story isn’t that great. The ending fell flat and I felt like it had an blunt agenda that I didn’t like. I think it would be a better story to share how things can live together and not be removed and moved to a different location. The story just needs more development.

What can I say about Alex? This book was off the charts amazing from the beginning of the story until the end of the book. D Camille always seems to top herself with every book she releases and Alex is no different!!! This is a wonderful story that'll take you from the West Coast to the East to Senegal and back again. I didn't think she could top the the first 3 books in the series but I was wrong because Alex and Keesha are a couple to be reckoned with...they learned to never leave loose ends!!! I can't wait to see what happens with Justice next month!!!

I luved Alex he was a different kind of sexy then his brother Xavier he had a edge to him a side his father probably had but kept under wraps. I luved kessha was a strong woman who took her job seriously but gave herself the chance to love. It was wonderful to the a books connected the people from each series stopping by. D Camille is a BEAST with the pen. Every book surpasses the one before. She drops knowledge for the culture in every book. Alex and Kessha were pure FIYAH! This book will grab your attention from the beginning to the vet end. Some parts of the book had we like whoa other parts had me shook! Kessha was a beast as a heroine and with Alex unstoppable! You don't want to miss this, pick it up!

Ms. Camille has done it again! Alex and Keesha's story lived up to every expectation and more. There was explosive chemistry, action and plenty of laughs. Individually Alex and Keesha were powerful, but they would soon learn that together they were UNSTOPPABLE. I absolutely love this series and can't wait for Justice's story!!!

I have read all of Ms. Camille books and I rank this one within the top 5 out of the various series. In preparation for book 4 of Alex, I re-read Diamond and Skye. I am so glad that I did. I loved the story of Alex and Keesha. It’s refreshing to see the characters from the previous series. Looking forward to playboy Justice and the following on issues.

This family is great. Alex finally sees his Goddess and she brought him to his knees. Lots of love and laugh out loud moments.(Grandmom Caroline is too funny) Don't come for them or you will be handled. Can't wait for the next one. After each new one I go back to reread them all again. Worth staying up late to finish I couldn't put down to I got to the end.

Kessha and Alex were everything. The thing I love about D. Camille's writings is that the couples complement each other. It was also good to see that all the foes of the Heirs are not dead. Shanna is going to be a problem until her death. I'm excited to see how Justice's story unfolds.

Alex and Kesha were an Awesome couple. Their individual and collective strength and love for each other and their people was beautiful to read. They were a true Force!!! I loved their journey. I cannot wait to see them in action throughout the rest of the Heirs series.
