I really wanted to enjoy this book, and in part I did, but I was turned off by all the detail listing the many characters who show up in the Carr novels. It's like those Christie compendiums that catalog all the characters in the books. Well, let's face it: the names are mostly irrelevant in Carr and Christie since characterizations are of stick figures and types and can't be remembered later. So, there is a boatload of detail about the characters who show up in the novels and stories. There is a lot of detail about publication history and about radio, TV, and movie productions when available. To the author's credit, he gives short summaries of the basic plots of Carr's works without giving away "spoilers" -- details about who-dun-it and how-dun-it (the most important part of a Carr story). The author presents data about quotes, literary references, and historical references . The book is not very "critical" in the sense of letting the reader know what is the best mystery and what is a howler. Maybe, being "critical" about mysteries is as hard as indicating favorite songs or movies since individual tastes differ. Still, providing an idea of the reception by the professional newspaper and book reviewers at the time of publication might have been more helpful. This is a book for Carr devotees only, and not for the general mystery story reader looking for the best of Carr to read. A book best left for library shelves, not for ready reference.

Arthur I. Stonehill is a Professor of Finance and International Business, Emeritus, at Oregon State University, where he taught for 24 years (1966–1990). During 1991–1997 he held a split appointment at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and Copenhagen Business School. From 1997 to 2001 he continued as a Visiting Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He has also held teaching or research appointments at the University of California, Berkeley; Cranfield School of Management (U.K.); and the North European Management Institute (Norway). He was a former president of the Academy of International Business, and a western director of the Financial Management Association. Professor Stonehill received a B.A. (History) from Yale University (1953), an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School (1957), and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from University of California, Berkeley (1965). He was awarded honorary doctorates from the Aarhus School of Business (Denmark, 1989), the Copenhagen Business School (Denmark, 1992), and Lund University (Sweden, 1998). He has authored or coauthored nine books and twenty-five other publications. His articles have appeared in Financial Management, Journal of International Business Studies, California Management Review, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting, International Business Review, European Management Journal, The Investment Analyst (U.K.), Nationaløkonomisk Tidskrift (Denmark), Sosialøkonomen (Norway), Journal of Financial Education, and others.   David K. Professor Moffett received a B.A. (Economics) from the University of Texas at Austin (1977); an M.S. (Resource Economics) from Colorado State University (1979); an M.A. (Economics) from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1983); and Ph.D. (Economics) from the University of Colorado, Boulder (1985). He has authored, coauthored, or contributed to six books and 15 other publications. Ok normally when you buy a book they introduce you to a concept and then they solve a problem for you. You then solve a similar problem to show you understand it. This book has problems at the end of chapters that were not even subject matter in the chapter. This is obvious in chapter #1 problem #1-#5. I know the professor will say you are an MBA student figure it out. I agree with this, but show me the concept and then let me figure it out. I am appalled at the quality of the information in this book. Sickening!

Beware if you are downloading the rented kindle edition. I have 2 pcs running windows, 1 tablet running windows 8, 1 tablet running android, and a kindle and the ONLY thing this book will download onto is my phone. Who in the world wants to read an upper level finance textbook from their phone? Of course, after I discovered this, there was not an option to return the book even though it was 5 minutes after placing the order.

Book is exactly as described (actually looks much better than described) and was delivered in the time frame indicated. Thank you!

This is the same text as the more expensive version. Do yourself a favor and save your money and buy this book. Then go out to the bar and spend the 120 dollars you saved on some drinks and enjoy college. Lol. Or... Invest it.

I learned a lot since I had zero knowledge of the topics discussed in the book. However, the book could be a lot better. It needs more explanations and it's not 100% clear. It's surprising how this is the 12th edition and it feels like there is so much room for improvement.

Excellent quality, arrived on time for class and can't wait to explore the topics.
