The message about friendship is one that even the youngest of readers will enjoy. The sketch like illustrations, and soft color tones have made Chase one of my favorite children's book illustrators.

I preordered this months before it was even released because I discovered the artist on Etsy and fell in love. Then I spent weeks on Amazon trying to find stuffed animals to match the three animals in the book. Of course on Amazon I was successful. Now have three great stuffed animals that look almost idential to the animals in her book. The book is absolutely adorable and we can't wait for her to come out with another.

This story is ADORABLE! Purchased as a gift for a toddler who asks his mum to read nightly. The book size is small for little hands.-Nicole

This is a sweet book. I had originally bought it because I love the authors prints on Etsy and had hoped to copy and frame pages some from the book but the pages although super cute are not really set up to frame. My 3yr old daughter loves this book.

I bought this book for a baby shower as requested in place of a card. They are naming the baby Oliver and I was excited to find such a cute book with the babies name in it. The story is very cute, sends a nice message, and the illustration is wonderful.

So cute, and perfect for my nephew, Oliver!

I suppose I have a bit of a bias because I enjoy Ms. Elliot's books more than I do Ms. Leigh's.Having said that, this book was a good, quick read, nothing that taxed my brain too much. I wish they would (both) stop writing about any romantic aspects because the feeling between the characters doesn't support the matches. There are no sparks, no interesting dialogue, no sly smile waiting to emerge. We're just told that they're now dating. Big Woo.Stick to the mystery alone or hone your skills and make this a true romantic mystery. Just saying.

This is the second novella in the gripping novella series about Deputy Tessa Black who has ended her career with the Seattle PD and has now returned to Widow's Island to take care of her mom. While thinking her mom's illness was the worst, she's shocked to see a local man killed with a harpoon. She fears it may be a serial killer and soon she may be in harm's way. This is another short, exciting story from great author Melinda Leigh who knows how to entertain readers. It's thrilling and quick to read!

A nice continuation of the Widow's Island series with Tessa and Logan being the main characters this time around. Another murder on this quiet island and Tessa has her hands full with her mother's onset of dementia and a killer on the loose. Fortunately Logan, Cate's brother, is now the local park ranger and available to aide Tessa. Meanwhile, this is a fast-paced, clear and satisfying chase for the killer. I enjoy the characters and the life and colorful residents on Widow's Island.

Fabulous! Just fabulous! I just love Melinda Leigh! Always original and refreshing. As I said about the first book in this new novella series it's off to a fantastic start and I'm looking forward to the second installments. I only wish we didn't have to wait so long to get them.The characters in this novella are wonderful and if I'm honest I like them a bit more than the ones in the first installment. The chemistry seems better and the characters seems to click better. But don't get me wrong the first one is great! You can absolutely not go wrong with Melinda Leigh or Kendra Elliot! It's f-ing impossible. I'm so anxious to see what happened to the third friend and I hope there's a WOW factor there. Knowing Melinda and Kendra there will be. I highly suggest this new novella series!*** Note to Melinda - are you planning on doing another kindle in motion with this series? ***

I enjoy Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot both. However, I love when they write a series together. These novellas are no exception. Both Leigh and Elliott create likable characters in situations that aren't difficult to believe. Add to that the lead characters are strong females in leadership positions, is even more enjoyable. I find that to be the case across their different series. I recommended this series to a co-worker and she is hooked also. Waiting for #3.

I found this book to be easy to read and follow. Thought it would be just a filler book while I waited for the next preorder to be delivered but found it quite good. Getting to enjoy this author more each book I read.

I chose this book because of the previous one. I enjoy the murder and drama in a book, but the good shown by people coming together to help others is so appealing.

Today a lot of money is sent without results, especially in the health care girls for dementia and the amount of money because we are too vain to age gracefully. Spending $ on makeup and having a relative with Azheimer's, I can easily relate. I like Tessa, Logan and Cate

The author Higashino has a talent for inducing intense emotional trembles through mere descriptive writing. Such brilliance lies not so much in the art of language (like Shakespeare's), but in the beauty of multidimensional retrospective and speculative logic. All the logical reasoning driven by and entwined with passion and sentiments is stunningly aesthetically pleasing. The structure of the story as a whole is similar to that of a mathematical proof, which begins by disclosing all details of the murder, and is followed by series of nonlinear hypotheses and speculations as Ishigami and Yukawa (the investigator) dive into an intellectual wrestle. Everything is brought to an end as several blind spots in the protection web Ishigami built for his love, Hanaoka, are revealed. The way the author Higashino constructs his web of storylines and the way his character Ishigami calculates potential risks and corresponding measures are, in essence, the same. Both are highly skilled in giving false leads, creating distractions, making use of blind spots, and planting seeds as precautions for future use or urgent defense. Nevertheless, it is for sure that the author grasps insights into the operations of human hearts far better than his character does.Personal thoughts:For an exceptionally intellectual mind with few sensors for emotional stimuli, love could take the form of religion, in which the rational mind worships the beloved one in awe from afar. One of the main reasons is that a genius' love language is inevitably too obscure for the average people to understand. The tragedy lies in how no one, including his loved one, can never ever acquire the level of intelligence required to fully comprehend the complexity of his love embroidered into webs of calculations. There is no difference between Hanaoka and a student who has neither the patience nor capacity to fully understand the proof of a mathematical theorem, and so its brilliance is to be neglected by its primary audience till the end of time.This is a layered tragedy told in a mathematically beautiful and concise manner, generating waves of aftershocks.

Absolutely gorgeous writing, clear and concise without oversimplifying. Knockout of a story. It may surprise you even if you think you know where it's going, and it's a tremendous character study. I will look for more by this author.

Yasuko Hanaoka is a single mother just trying to get ahead. She's finally working a more respectable job and raising her teenage daughter, Misato, as best she can. Her sleazy ex-husband, Togashi, is making that difficult. As much as she tries to distance herself, he keeps coming around, extorting money in order to go away. This time, however, the altercation becomes physical when Misato hits him. He attacks the girl, and both mother and daughter wind up in a life-or-death struggle that finds Togashi strangled on the floor.Panicked, the two are discussing Yasuko turning herself into the police when a knock comes at the door. It is Ishigami, the smitten teacher who lives next-door. It seems he *will* do anything for Yasuko--including move bodies. And so a plot is hatched. Ishigami is much more than a high school math teacher. At one time, he was a bona fide mathematical genius and it seems he's still got a talent for logic and strategy. Will it help them all get away with murder?Enter "Detective Galileo," the nickname of physicist Manabu Yukawa. Yukawa earned his moniker helping out the police on occasional cases. He's got Holmesian intellect and observational skills, though considerably better people skills than the famed detective. And, back in their college days, he and Ishigami were friends and rivals. While Yukawa is not officially on the case, his personal connection draws him in. But rather than working with Detective Kusanagi, for the first time he seems to be following his own agenda. Thus begins a high-stakes chess game between two brilliant men. Says the physicist:"When an amateur attempts to conceal something, the more complex he makes his camouflage, the deeper the grave he digs for himself. But not so a genius. The genius does something far simpler, yet something no normal person would even dream of, the last thing a normal person would think of doing. And from this simplicity, immense complexity is created."I'm not generally a huge fan of police procedurals, but this one had a lot going for it. At the very top of the list is the plotting. The cat-and-mouse aspect to the investigation kept tension ratcheted--especially as readers knew exactly how the murder went down from the novel's opening pages. But each of these men had surprises up their sleeves, and the dénouement was a thing of beauty. Also, this was largely a crime of self-defense (apparently not a big concept in the Japanese legal system, as it was never brought up once as a mitigating factor), and therefore the perpetrators were quite sympathetic. As a reader, at times it was hard to know who to root for--and that's just interesting. This was definitely not a black and white crime novel.Character development is a little trickier. I always have some trouble getting a feel for Japanese characters simply due to cultural differences. And whatever the culture, Ishigami is not your average Joe. I liked Yukawa quite a lot, but can't say that I feel he's a wildly unique creation. At least not yet. Author Keigo Higashino has had a second Detective Galileo mystery published in English, Salvation of a Saint. As I was reading, I thought to myself, This must not be the first novel in the series. But checking Wikipedia, it appears there were only a series of short stories featuring the character prior to this novel. Additionally, there's a third novel in the series not yet released in America. Based on this introduction, I'd be very open to further investigations.

About the Author

Charles Bukowski is one of America’s best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany, to an American soldier father and a German mother, and brought to the United States at the age of two. He was raised in Los Angeles and lived there for over fifty years. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.Abel Debritto, a former Fulbright scholar and current Marie Curie fellow, works in the digital humanities. Like so much of his poetry, it is a mixed bag. If you like him, you will like some of this work, maybe even love a few. Even if you like him, though, you might find a lot here that doesn’t live up to your expectations.He addresses this, several times, and seemed to be struggling to fit in to our idea of him, and maybe even his own idea of himself, after the readings stopped, after he found success, after the struggle was gone, what was left?You can see him reaching for it here, for sure. Does he reach it? I don’t think so. Few of the poems here survive in our idea of what Bukowski made.But as a writer, an artist, and a person true to his vision of himself, he continued. In a few years, he would give us “Last Night on Earth” so, it is good to watch the progress.

These crude and raw feelings are exactly what we need when we don’t find anything real around. It’s life as it is, from the perspective of a man that lived so much, and given in the most honest way he could.Sometimes I felt sad, sometimes I felt his joy, his sarcasm and his irony. I felt I lived a whole different life after reading these poems, and it was such an adventurous life, in its own, unique way.I guess this is something one can read after living the ups and downs of life, and I’m sure I’ll read and understand it differently 10 years from now.

Arrived a week early.The book itself will make you laugh, cry, cringe, restore your hope, but also increase your disdain for humanity. We all are the same and can learn a lot from one another. LISTEN before responding. Take others thoughts and feelings into consideration. Thanks for your lovely and unique insight Bukowski.

It’s no wonder that most of my favorite bands, films, authors, and art are influenced by CB. This collection of works contains some of his most off color and vivid imagery that most would be appalled by. Underneath it all is a shade of the human condition we all try to glam up or conceal entirely. I couldn’t contour his wit if I tried. You’re welcome for the make-up metaphors.

Real. I love how Buk can take one seemingly not so wonderful memory and hold it up for examination in the most modest of lights and show you the beauty of even our most s***ty humanistic qualities as something meaningful and pure.

I just started looking Charles Bukowski not too long ago.... I love his poetry, it makes no sense to me,but i don't mind, his poetry tells stories,and i can image myself be there with him and feel what he feels when i read them, i love it, definitely recommend reading his books, an old man with stories to tell. Love it

Bold an honest, the only way he could write. Often harsh and brutal insight to what he saw as societys flaws or fantasies. Mr Bukowski never lets me down. RIP

Filled with poems about life, love, loss, happiness, failure, and of course, drinking. Regardless of where you are in life, there will be at least one poem that will resonate with you. Bukowski was a talented writer and storyteller and had a way of making even mundane things interesting. I originally purchased the book because some of its contents were read on the movie Beautiful Creatures, and I was intrigued.
