I bought this book after I heard the author speak at a conference. I enjoyed it very much and plan to re-read it. The author debunks three major myths about how government works. The prevailing myths are: (1) we don't make widgets, i.e., we don't produce anything; (2) we don't have customers, i.e., we serve the general public rather than a specific group of individuals; and (3) we don't make a profit, i.e., we do not achieve specific, identifiable results. In the process of debunking these myths, the author reveals additional truths about the governmental process, e.g., why surveys don't really tell us anything important, and why employee incentives don't really work. This revolutionary book challenges government managers and employees to look at their work in a new way. I think that it should be required reading for every public sector employee!

Ken Miller may never replace John Locke or Thomas Hobbes as a great writer of political theory. However, his contribution to the people who actually administer our governments is important. In a very simple style, Miller makes a strong argument that government employees need to start thinking about the cost of government services and the customers who receive their services. Government does make widgets. The cost, quality, and timeliness of those widgets are matters of great public concern.Miller's book is filled with redundancy, probably to drive home its very important points. During these repetitions, I think Miller may confuse his readers on the difference between outputs which he calls widgets and outcomes, especially in regard to polling. Systems theory holds that government is a black box which requires certain inputs like tax revenue, policy decisions, voting, and feedback. These inputs are processed inside the black box to produce outputs like building permits. An output produces an outcome such as the timely completion of a project. The outcome produces either positive or negative feedback which is an input to the black box.While I agree that public opinion polling can't tell us much about the or output - a building permit - it is certainly a valid means of feedback on the outcome - public satisfaction with the pace or quality of growth in the community. Government has many customers, including the developer requesting the permit and the community that experiences both the disruption of new construction and the advantage of a new facility. If we accept Miller's important assertion that government employees must focus more on satisfying their customers, then polling to determine public satisfaction with the outcome of government's efforts is critical.Otherwise, Miller says what needs to be said in terms that are helpful, but not threatening, to people inside government agencies. The book is a quick read and it is very understandable. It should be required reading for all public employees. It may also be a beacon of hope for those of us who stand in a long line to renew our driver's license, only to face a surly bureaucrat who never heard the term "customer service".

This book is well thought out and presents excellent ideas in bite size packets. I highly recommend for ANYONE working in government.

It is a good book but it does not bring any new ideas. Though it makes important contributions to the reality of most government agencies worldwide, in how to work on common challenges.

I purchased a copy of this book based on a recommendation from a colleague. My colleague lacks the education and experience to see the flaws in this book. For example, without understanding the fundamentals of motivation theory, one can't reasonably communicate something more complicated based on those theories. It'd be like trying to explain chemical engineering without understanding chemistry. This book is just another iteration of an attempt to produce a "pop-management" book for quick personal gain. If you want to know about statistical process control, and the applications for ANY type of organization, study the works of Deming, Herzberg and others. This book is the business equivalent of someone writing a book about what someone told them about the works of Shakspeare.

This book really helps you learn to think like a manager. After reading this book you will change the way you think about government!

Great introduction to how Lean concepts apply to governmental agencies.

If you don't have any problems with emotional manipulation and are into vague information and poor thesis outlines then this is the book for you. One of the worst books I have ever read. Don't waste your money even when it is in the dollar bin.

I was looking for something to help my daughter navigate the early teen years. I thought this book would be a good fit, so I ordered it. What a mistake.What this book actually is, is a collection of the stupidest, most inane bit of "advice" ever put forth. Some examples:"Don't use liquid eyeliner. If you want to use liner, use powder." p55."Don't force your hand too far into the hole (of the toilet bowl)." p72."Remember: Customer service means giving the customer good service." p177.Add that to the snippets of garbage from 'real people' -- like this one:"Say what you mean, and mean what you say. Jessica, 18, California."This whole book reads like the author Googled a bunch of keywords for teens and cut and pasted the results into Word and published the pages.Seriously, save your money. The author should be ashamed of herself for putting something like this out there.

I recently purchased this as a birthday gift for my younger pre-teen sister. She's alllll about being a teen with ~attitude~, and I think this book is the perfect way to usher a young girl into her teenage years without being inappropriate or shameful to ones body image. I really enjoy the fact that while the book does mention body size and clothing choice, the bottom line remains, "Who cares what you look like, as long as your comfortable, wear whatever makes you feel good!" It's hard to find material for young girls that doesn't body shame or try to mature said girls too quickly. Anyway, this book is filled with handy little tips about loving yourself and doing your best.

I read this book when I was 25 (I'm now 34). I wished I had read it when I was 15! I used to be so shy, uncomfortable around everyone who wasn't my family, and could never figure out how some kids in school used to live life and have fun with such ease. Reading it inspired some amazing life changes for me and I am so glad to the author for writing it. I hope she gets to do another edition that would include GirlWise references about social media, etc. I just bought it for two of my nieces (one is graduating high school, the other a freshman). I love this book!

I gave this book to my daughter for her 13th birthday and she loves it. She has been skipping around and reading only those chapters that interest her in her early adolescence. It contains advice and recommendations for grooming, friendships, middle school challenges, puberty issues, and keeping up with school work, as well as more long-term advice like doing your own laundry and job-seeking. The authors guide girls from children to young women with ease. Written in a chatty and contemporary manner, it is neither preachy nor overly grow-up. GirlWise is a book that encourages compassion, maturity, responsibility, self-confidence and independence, without promoting self-indulgence, arrogance, or premature sexuality.

Stereotypic, mainstream topics for TEENAGERS who may be already having sex, such as in high school (about sophomore level), is the book's audience. I purchased this book for my 8th grader, thinking it would have MORE topics about self confidence, social situations, and physical changes from young girl to young woman. Do NOT recommend for girls under age of 16. Recommend for sexually-advanced girls who really need to read about what the heck they are getting into.

An excellent self contained story-arch. Good writing and art. Respects what's gone before (TV, comics) and ends satisfactorily,

It was a refreshing twist on a character i love in a world similar to yet different from the Batman Beyond universe I've loved since watching the show when it first aired almost 20 years ago. Tim Drake was always my favorite Robin, and while i miss Terry so does everyone else in the story, including Tim so it's not like Marvel's awful "Legacy Heroes" who spend half their time spitting on said legacy. The art is pretty weak though.

Finally a continuation to Futures End. An epic story worthy of Batman Beyond!!

While it's not Terry in the mantle and Futures End leave us with a bad taste in the mouth... this volume has its moments and some very cyberpunk-ish stuff which I really love. The art fits perfectly.

Came on time and was exactly as described, thanks guys!

My grandson loved the graphics in this comic book.

This is my first book by Oliver Sacks. I must admit I was expecting more science, less "novel." Dr. Sacks writes in a literary style and loves multiple complex sentences that make the argument indeed richer, but also intricate. So, if you want a simple reading, you'll be a little surprised.The book consists of four parts:1) Losses2) Execess3) Transports4) The World of the SimpleEach section relates to a different set of neurological problems resulting in a mental disorder.1) In the "Losses" the author describes nine cases."Neurology's favourite word is 'deficit', denoting an impariment or incapacity of neurological function: loss of vision, loss dexterity, loss of identity and myriad other lacks and losses of specific functions (or faculties)."2) In the "Execess" find five "stories"."What then of the opposite - an execess or superabundance of functions?"and next"... we consider their excesses - not amnesia, but hypermnesia; not agnosia, but hypergnosia; and all the other 'hypers' we can imagine."3) The chapter "Transports" describes six cases."...'transports' - often of poignant intensity, and shot through with personal feeling and meaning - tend to be seen, like drimes, as psychical: as a manifestation, perhaps, of unconscious or preconcious activity..."and next"...to be seen as psychoses, or to be brodcast as religious revelations, rather than brought to physicians."4) And at the end of "The World of the Simple" (four "stories"). Dr. Sacks describes cases of people whose neurological disorders outfitted with extraordinary abilities, such as "seeing the numbers," eidetic memory, an excellent sense of smell, etc. (Ie. brilliant savants).In his book, Dr. Sacks often refers to the study of well-known Russian psychologist A. R. Luria.Dr. Sacks style of reasoning, not everyone will like it. Besides, there are many similar books, though written from a different perspective than neurological such as "Tales from the Couch: A Clinical Psychologist's True Stories of Psychopathology" by Dr. Bob Wendorf.

Oliver Sacks was a neurologist who wrote several different best-sellers that delved into further understanding the capacity of the human brain. He wrote his best-sellers using his collection of cases of patients who suffered from different neurological conditions. Among one of his best sellers is the book The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales where he compiled several of his most interesting clinical tales using his former patients that suffered from a variety of different neurological disorders. In his book, he divided the cases into four different categories; loses, excesses, transports, and simple. This review will further analyze the title of the book, the different neurological disorders that are divided into the four different categories which will then be reviewed categorially by analyzing the ways in which neuroscience is present in the book.For starters, the book title The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and Other Clinical Tales is extremely fitting because it conveys the essence of the book. The title allows for some curiosity on the reader’s behalf which entices them to read the book because they want to know what kind of neurological disorder prevents the patient from recognizing faces and mistaking their wife for a hat. Dr. Sacks quickly introduces us to the patient responsible of the title of the book during the first chapter. I think it’s fitting that Dr. Sacks chose Dr. P as his first patient as his book title because it sets the precedent to the rest patients in his collection of clinical tails. By introducing the person responsible for the title of the book in the first chapter, it doesn’t leave the reader wondering which patient mistook their wife for a hat. On the contrary, it helps set the tone for the rest of the clinical tales which shows stories about neurological disorders just as wild as Dr. P’s case.For the most part, the book was very well written and easy to understand. Since the book was divided into four different categories, it allowed for the book to be extremely organized because the cases either fell into a losses, excesses, transports and simple categories. The first part of the book is losses, where Dr. Sacks describes neurological disorders that have a certain kind of loss in their neurological functions. An example of a loss would be visual agnosia which in the case of Dr. P, it took away his ability to distinguish faces. Although Dr. P was unable to distinguish faces, he still found a way to continue his everyday life with minimal interruption by using the help of music to guide him in his life.Neuroscience is presented in Dr. P’s case excessively. Because Dr. P’s has the inability to recognize faces, it means that his thinking is more abstract and mechanical. Dr. P’s thinking is more computer like because his brain is classifying and categorizing the faces he sees. Dr. P’s case is a prime example of why it’s important for not only the brain to classify and categorize things, but also having continual judging and feeling. If any of these elements are missing in the human brain, people become computer like, just as Dr. P. When people suffer from visual agnosia, just as Dr. P, their life becomes entirely abstract and computational. Dr. Sacks claim regarding that such disorder makes patients computer-like is accurate and valid because after making that claim, he follows up with the reader by showing another brief case of visual agnosia which allows the readers to compare the two patients and understand how complex visual agnosia is.The second part of the book is excesses, where Dr. Sacks describes neurological disorders that have a superabundance’s of functions. An example of an excess would be Tourette’s syndrome which is when a person has an excess amount of nervous system energy which transpires into production of strange motions and notions such as tics, compulsions, and etc. In the case of Witty Ticcy Ray his Tourette’s was extremely debilitating because his tics were uncontrollable and unorthodox. It wasn’t until Witty Ticcy Ray got started on a new medication called Haldol which allowed him to live his life with minimal interruption with his illness by finding the proper dosage that worked for him.Neuroscience is presented in the case of Witty Ticcy Ray in several different ways. For starters, Dr. Sacks starts out by explaining that Tourette’s patients have disturbances in the instinctual bases of behavior in the brain. Such areas affected are the thalamus, hypothalamus, limbic system and amygdala which is where all the determinants for personality are located at. The presentation of neuroscience in the case of Witty Ticcy Ray makes sense with my understanding of neuroscience because it helped me understand how Tourette’s Syndrome works due to the fact that the areas affected are the areas that control personality which in turn with Tourette’s is expressed through different kind of ticks.Additionally, the treatment for Witty Ticcy Ray’s Tourette’s was a medication called Haldol. Haldol helped control his ticks and helped him assimilate into everyday life. Haldol works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain such as neurotransmitters. Dr. Sacks claims of Haldol working on Witty Ticcy Ray’s Tourette’s demonstrates a further understanding of neuroscience. The only thing I would have liked to see from Dr. Sacks argument about Haldol, would have been to have been provided with an elaborate explanation in the ways in which Haldol helps the neurotransmitters restore chemical balances in the brain.The third part of the book is transports, where Dr. Sacks describes neurological disorders of patients that suffer from altered perceptions which allows them to transport back to a moment in their past by reminiscing without notice. An example of transports which in the case of Mrs. O’C was caused by temporal lobe seizures due to a stroke the right temporal lobe. In the case of Mrs. O’C she was hearing Irish music in her head which filled her with personal feelings of her past which allowed her in a way to transport back to her childhood. Mrs. O’C Irish music in her head was resolved on its own with time but it shows how some neurological conditions are able to transport patients back to forgotten memories.Neuroscience is presented in the case of Mrs. O’C in various ways. For starters, it shows the impact of a stroke in the brain and because of the location of the stroke occurred in the right temporal lobe, it allowed for temporal lobe seizures to occur which was the reasoning behind hearing music and transporting to earlier memories. The presentation makes sense with my current understanding of neuroscience because from what I’ve learned in class it was that the temporal lobe is involved in primary auditory perception, such as hearing, and holds the primary auditory cortex. When Mrs. O’C had right temporal lobe seizures, it makes sense that she would hear music in her head. Dr. Sacks also followed up his claim by providing evidence of a test he ran on Mrs. O’C where he electrically stimulated the right temporal lobe and caused her to hear music. Which further proved his claim regarding the temporal lobe seizures and their impact on the human brain.The fourth part of the book is simple, where Dr. Sacks introduces several different patients who are considered “simple” because they suffer from different forms of mental retardation. Although Dr. Sacks labels these patients as “simple” they completely outgrow that label because Dr. Sacks brings out their personal strengths in each of their case and shows how these patients are able to thrive despite their neurological limitations.Neuroscience is presented in this final section by Dr. Sacks providing different case studies of patients who all live a simple and innocent lives due to their mental retardation. Although, their world might be simple; that doesn’t mean that their brain doesn’t work. Dr. Sacks did well presenting different patients which helped me understand the different ways that neuroscience works in the world of simple. The last case study of the section of simple shows the story of an Autistic boy named Jose who is referred to as “The Autistic Artist.” Although he was mentally retarded and unable to speak, that did not make him an imbecile because when asked to draw pictures, he drew those same pictures differently and amazingly. The argument that Dr. Sacks makes regarding the different skills of many different individuals with mental retardation and what they can achieve despite their limitations is backed up correctly and well explained by providing different examples of all the different patients.Altogether, Dr. Sacks collection of various different clinical tales makes for an interesting yet informative neuroscience read. Dr. Sacks effectively examines the personal side of neurosis by making his book an easy read by incorporating empathy with clinical jargon. Dividing the book into four separate parts allows for the reader to get an understanding of how different neurological diseases come in all shapes and sizes. Dr. Sacks effectively explains the concepts of losses in neuroscience, the concept of excesses, the concept of transports and the world of simple. All the different patients that were included in the different sections made it easier to understand the different neurological diseases being explained because it allowed the reader to see different examples of how neuroscience plays a giant role in our everyday lives.

But this little book will make you want to get out of your cubicle little world and get the good news out there.

This little book is packed with helpful information about the approach Jesus took when making disciples. The method becomes more clear: first train the disciples and teach them to be obedient, and then show them how to go forth with power to do his work. The training seems to be focused on demonstrations of preaching the good news of salvation through faith in Christ, healing the sick, casting out devils, proclaiming deliverance to the captive, opening the eyes of the blind, and setting at liberty those who were oppressed. The training includes demonstrations, love, and constant guidance which results in the everlasting kingdom. An emphasis on close, personal guidance is an absolute must. Jesus worked with his disciples faithfully and patiently until, when the time was right, they were ultimately sent forth to tell the world about a redeeming love.

This takes the Gospel accounts and pulls out the strategy Jesus used to make disciples who would make disciples. It focuses only on the Gospels, which prevents it from gaining from the patterns in Acts and the Church growth methods that followed after Jesus left. These fit our present context more closely than did the context the disciples had with Jesus. It doesn't mean we can't transfer them to our setting, but I look forward to a study that weaves both together. For example, Paul and the apostles traveled from place to place making disciples, but never stayed 3 years with any of them. In most cases they stayed only a few days or weeks. They wrote letters and revisited, but again these were short trips. But they did have the apostles' teachings that they could leave with them.... like we do today and they had the Holy Spirit indwelling.

This isn't a book focused on evangelism methodology, so much as it is a philosophy of evangelism. The `master plan' (or `Master's plan') refers to the approach that our Lord himself took in choosing, training, and sending out the disciples to reach others.The plan breaks down into eight parts - choosing a few dedicated individuals, spending all (or much of) your time with them, insistence on holiness in life, pouring into them your own zeal for God and his purposes through the power of the Holy Spirit, modeling for them a life given to God (particularly in prayer, attention to scripture, and public ministry), sending them out to do specific ministry tasks, supervising them and keeping them accountable in those efforts, and teaching them to repeat the process themselves with new disciples.Coleman's exegesis is sound, and his emphasis on theology and philosophy over methodology is refreshing. There are a few odd missteps here and there (e.g. his comments on why the disciples were sent to `the lost sheep of Israel'), but overall this is a convicting and biblical volume on carrying the message of the kingdom.

I was going to give this book two stars but then I finished reading the book. In the end Shah sells a deceased neighbor's stamp collection and gives the money he makes from the sale to the neighbor's widow. He also earns the trust and respect of his household caretakers by holding a ceremony to expel Jinn's (evil spirits) from his house in Casablanca, his work as somebody who has escaped drab London complete. Other fun parts of the book are learning about Moroccan craftsmanship, trading practices, religious practices, coffee, and food. Shah observes and reflects and repeats, and reveals himself as a thoughtful person, which I also gleaned from reading his Wikipedia page. He wants the world to be a more peaceful place and works toward that goal.The reason I can't give this book four stars is because it could be about half the length it is. For example, in one sequence late in the book he describes in great detail how he buys cedar wood for construction of his new library. Hemingway is turning over in his grave. The other reason this book can't be higher than three stars is because it is episodic and formulaic. Here is the formula of each episode: Shah wants to do a renovation project in the house, the caretakers tell him it will be difficult because the house is haunted by evil spirits, his other assistant Kamal finds some back alley way to get the job done. Repeat that sequence and you have the book. Also, Shah has this incredibly annoying habit of ending each episode with a cliffhanger quote that is I suppose supposed to be amusing but is in fact irritating because the situations are never that dangerous or worrisome. He tries to build in drama where simple descriptions might do.Lastly, Shah must be a wealthy man. He isn't transparent about how much money is required to buy a house in Casablanca, employ anywhere from four to ten servants, keep up a local school through donations, renovate the house with intricate work, buy a car, and such is, but this is no task that an average person can perform, and as such the book leaves you with the knowledge that as long as you have enough money, life will be secure, albeit at times unpredictable due to the varying levels of dependability of those you interact with. It reminds me a little of the TV show West World in the sense that you pay a ton of money to have a "real" experience in an exotic place while all the normal, non-wealthy people out there have to work through their drab existence from paycheck to paycheck.

A confession: I adore Morocco. It is a place of dreams, beauty and ideas that are foreign and lovely. The food is fresh and fragrant with spices. As a tourist, a people watcher and a scholar, I have studied the place. So when I picked up the Caliph's House, I expected to return to the place of my dreams and spend a week enjoying the book. Instead, I met a new and different Morocco of workers, customs and household djins never before encountered.The story line involves a Londoner of Afghan descent who moves his young family to a rundown but beautiful estate home just outside a bidonville of Casablanca intending to restore the house to its former glory. Work proceeds, or not, based on a complicated system of beliefs and customs that we learn about through a series of work stoppages, destructions and contractors. As it turns out, the house comes with three longtime resident guardians who have much advice that varies as to usefulness and self-servingness. Some of this is laugh out loud funny and some provides deep cultural insights. I knew nothing about djins before reading this book and the author knew nothing about them before writing it. Nonetheless, if you have djins in your toilets or wells, there is hell to pay.This is a beautifully written book replete with cultural context and human concerns. It evokes a powerful sense of place. It is also by turns hilarious and deeply moving. In the end, it is a delightful book that is also insightful about working class Moroccan life.

This book gave a wonderful, entertaining account of moving from London to Casablanca. The obstacles the author encountered provide the reader with a window into life in Casablanca, with all it's checks and balances. Surviving the renovation of The Caliph's House is a nightmare that makes one appreciate the saner, if frustrating issues we western renovator's regularly encounter. Tame by comparison. An interesting, humorous, and enlightening read.

I never do reviews like this, but I was so disappointed with this purchase that I had to. I used to have the first printing of this book and it was great. I went to buy a new copy because I lost my old one, and I was not happy. For starters it is printed on-demand. The date it was printed is on the last page and it has the same date as when I ordered it, which is fine, however, it is printed from a scanned copy so the quality is horrible. The first printing was printed in black AND blue ink, the reprints are all in black, so there is a big issue with a lot of the graphics (especially when blue, black, and gray are used together.) The best part of this book was the graphics (it is a technical manual!). The writing is great, but the cheep xerox printed look leaves much to be desired. Do yourself a favor and get a more useful used copy of the first printing. - Note: it is still the first edition but not the first printing (there is no changes to the content - just the printing).

[This review applies only to the Kindle version]I purchased the original paperback version when it came out and loved it. Full of neat little illustrations and tons of background data, it was, and still is, the definitive resource book for TNG fans (right next to the Encyclopedia).The Kindle version is terrible. I'm sorry, Amazon, but you should be ashamed of yourself. The text is all there, but the illustrations, for which the book was known for (as another reviewer said, this is a TECH MANUAL, for crying out loud), are small, blurry, and look like somebody literally photocopied them (and not very well). To make matters worse, some of the illustrations are in the wrong place and don't even match their captions...thankfully, I have the original soft-copy book still.Please re-create this for Kindle...it's such a shame, I was so excited to buy this.

I still have the original from the 90s, but wanted a copy I didn't have to worry about wearing out further. While the original printing had crisp, two-color graphics, this was obviously a fairly quick scan/OCR job. The illustrations don't show much detail, and often have incorrect captions due to missing illustrations. The text itself contains numerous and obvious errors from the OCR process (lower-case "L" replaced with exclamation marks, etc.). It is accurate enough, but disappointing that so little care was taken to convert it into an electronic version.

Adding my voice hoping to bring down the star rating. I have the EXACT same story as the other 1 star raters. Had the original book from the 90s. I actually gave it away to a Trekkie buddy because I had read the thing cover to cover but later regretted it. I was excited to get this book back in my library BUT NO! The material is all here but they phoned in the printing. I think Xerox actually published this. I would rather have a used dog eared 90s version than this thing. Some of the illustrations are down right unreadable.

I used to own this in the print version and loved it. Lost it in a fire and decided to go "modern day presidential" with an electronic version on Kindle. I am VERY disappointed in how the artwork transitioned - almost every illustration is blurry and dark, with text that is difficult to read at best. Most of the flowcharts reproduced here are impossible to read. A number of the illustrations do not match the descriptive text. This is a very poor (and lazy) port of the printed book to the Kindle format - it's like the editor was asleep or just didn't care about the end-quality of the product. As to the text, format, thoughtfulness and depth of the information presented: 5 stars for sure. This is one of the best Star Trek related books I have ever seen, the authors of the text did a commendable job. Illustrations are profuse, detailed and well-rendered in the printed version - too bad they are so disappointing on the Kindle. Buy the print copy.

I've been hesitant to buy this for a while because the claims from people about the quality. Once I found out that you can return a Kindle purchase, I bought it. Considering the age of the original publication, I think this converted to Kindle very well. The LCAR style page markings are not present, a few of the graphics look like a copier ran out of ink, but, I have ZERO complaints. My original copy that I bought in '92 is very delicate and I don't want to keep using it for fear of pages coming out... this Kindle version is a perfect substitute. Now, if only Amazon would put the DS9 Manual on Kindle.

If you are a fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation and a tech head, "Star Trek The Next Generation: Technical Manual" is a must. It has plans, schematics and illustrations of all the systems on the Enterprise 1701-D, with additions of the shuttlecraft, the captain's yacht, weapons and other aspects of Trek life. Want to know how the Structural Integrity Field works? Or maybe the Transporter or artificial gravity? It's all right here. (Want to know where they go the bathroom on the bridge? Sorry, that's *not* here.) It's all black and white (no color), clearly drawn illustrations and absolutely understandable explanations (if you can call lots of invented theoretical science understandable). There are little sidebars with behind-the-scenes insight into some of the thought that went behind it, who at NASA they consulted and what episode something appeared in. I wish there was lots more of these, but then maybe it would spoil the effect.It's a great reference for Trek modelers and just a fun book to look at if you like this kind of stuff. And it makes you think they really thought about the technology behind daily life fairly seriously (what, no breweries in engineering?!). Published in 1991, this is still a great book to have for a great series.
